The new Iridium Edge Solar is designed to be a simple, low-cost, solar-based tracking device. Connectivity is delivered through the fully secure global Iridium Satellite Network, featuring 2-way communication and Bluetooth low-energy connectivity. You can attach the Solar Edge GPS tracker to a boat, tender, vehicle, trailer or other assets using the Iridium Edge Mounting Bracket / Protective Bezel. Regular GPS tracking reports would then be sent from the unit, with the built-in solar panel recharging the internal battery even when there is not much sunlight by combining the long-life solar power delivered with the dependability of a battery backup.
The Iridium Edge® Solar is a standalone, programmable, solar-powered Short Burst Data (SBD®) device that offers real-time GPS tracking, local wireless sensors, and communication capabilities over Bluetooth. The product's self-charging feature requires minimal maintenance and is designed for use in harsh environments, making it suitable for mobile and fixed asset monitoring. It supports real-time GPS tracking, local wireless sensors, and Bluetooth communication.
Its backup battery will support reporting up to twice daily for five years. The Iridium Edge Solar is for customers who require a simple tracking device that they can set and forget. Therefore, if you need a simple autonomous tracker with global coverage and transmitting every few hours, this could be exactly what you need.
Highly Mobile: The Iridium satellite network provides communications and connectivity for mobile applications, including oil and gas, transportation, agriculture, and surface mining anywhere on the planet. This enables tracking and monitoring of vehicles and assets operating in remote areas.
Reliable Coverage: Devices using the Iridium satellite network connect to a constellation of 66 low-Earth orbit (LEO) mobile satellites that provide service anywhere on the planet.
Low Latency: The Iridium satellites in low-Earth orbit (~800 km) enable signals to travel in 1/40 the time compared to geostationary satellites (36,000 km), resulting in low-latency, always-on connections ideal for Internet of Things (IoT) deployments.
