NB-IoT Tracking Plans

 What is NB-IoT?

NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) is a low-power, wide-area network (LPWAN) cellular technology for efficient, long-range communication with minimal energy use. It operates within a narrow 200 kHz bandwidth and offers a maximum upload speed of around 62.5 kbps.

While the data transfer rate is relatively slow, this trade-off allows for significantly lower power consumption and reduced device costs, which is ideal for applications like smart meters, environmental sensors, and asset tracking.

NB-IoT provides excellent coverage in stationary deployments, including deep indoor environments. However, it does not support cell tower handover, meaning the connection may drop if the device moves out of range or changes location frequently.

Should I use NB-IoT devices for Asset Tracking?

NB-IoT Asset Tracking devices are designed for assets that do not need to send frequent updates, 1 - 8 Locations every 24 hours, and require a longer battery life. This technology may be more suitable for your long-term tracking requirements.

What if I require more frequent updates and movement alerts?

If you require more frequent updates, movement alerts, and location history, consider our Asset Tracking Plans. They are more suitable for frequent location updates and movement.
